As a <strong>Network Systems Engineer I</strong>, you’ll play an important role in keeping our systems stable, secure, and running smoothly across our business.</p><p>You’ll be part of our Infrastructure team, supporting the core network that connects our data centres, stores, and distribution centres nationwide. From monitoring performance to resolving incidents, you’ll help ensure our network is reliable, safe, and aligned with the needs of our colleagues and customers.</p><p>This role will also involve working closely with Booker IT teams, Tesco Technology, external suppliers, and our Service Desk. Occasionally, you may be needed outside normal business hours to support critical incidents.</p><p>If you enjoy problem‑solving, collaborating with great people, and contributing to meaningful improvements, this role could be a great next step for you.</p><h2>Main Responsibilities</h2><ul><li>Support the delivery of network projects, ensuring they land on time and meet business needs.</li><li>Help manage day‑to‑day network operations and keep systems stable, available, and secure.</li><li>Install, configure, patch, and support network hardware and operating systems in line with our layered‑defence standards.</li><li>Troubleshoot and resolve network or system issues, including hardware, configuration, and software faults.</li><li>Work with third‑party suppliers to diagnose issues, replace equipment, and deliver effective fixes.</li><li>Support colleagues with network‑related queries, both remotely and face‑to‑face.</li><li>Maintain accurate documentation, including network diagrams and project updates.</li><li>Produce reports, KPIs, and management information when required.</li><li>Follow change management and system security processes, ensuring compliance with internal and supplier requirements.</li><li>Support disaster recovery testing and help review network risks.</li><li>Identify recurring issues, suggest improvements, and contribute to approved changes.</li><li>Work with Desktop and Applications teams on patching and connectivity tasks.</li><li>Step in for the Lead Engineer when needed.</li></ul><h2>You will need</h2><ul><li>Knowledge of network connectivity, firewalls, routers, switches, and access points.</li><li>Experience supporting network systems in a live production environment.</li><li>Strong troubleshooting skills and a structured approach to diagnosing faults.</li><li>Understanding of service management and change control processes.</li><li>Good organisation skills with the ability to prioritise work effectively.</li><li>Confident communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work well with colleagues, customers, and suppliers.</li><li>A positive, proactive mindset and willingness to learn and adapt.</li><li>A commitment to delivering secure, stable, best‑practice solutions.</li><li>A collaborative approach and a focus on delivering great results.</li><li>A valid Full UK Driving Licence.</li></ul><h2>What's in it for you</h2><p>At Booker, along with being a great place to work and giving you an opportunity to get on in your career, we also offer the following fantastic package of benefits:</p><ul><li>A Booker colleague card with 10% off purchases at Booker and double discount events up to three times a year.</li><li>After 3 months service, a Tesco colleague discount card with 10% increasing to 15% off most purchases at Tesco for a 4 day period after every four-weekly pay day, ie. thirteen times a year.
