<h2>About the role</h2><p>Reporting to the General Manager, you will be responsible for Managing the Transport Operations at a busy distribution centre. Responsible for a fleet of Class 1 and Class 2 vehicles, you will Lead a team of Managers, Drivers, Trainers and Administrative Colleagues. This is an exciting Leadership role, as the departmental head, you will be a key member of the sites senior management team.</p><h2>Main Responsibilities</h2><ul><li>Operate & achieve the transport budget.</li><li>Ensure legal Compliance to DVSA standards</li><li>Experience of both internal and external audits</li><li>Influence, direct and support your management team to work to performance criteria and undertake the right activities that positively influence cost within the department.</li><li>Lead, motivate and develop the Transport team members through performance management to raise performance standards and achieve KPI’s for cost, service and people.</li><li>Challenge under performance and recognise good performance in equal measure.</li><li>Collate KPI figures weekly and produce period end reports and action plans.</li><li>Ensure driver overtime and use of agency drivers and subcontractors are kept to a minimum.</li><li>Repair and maintenance costs to be strictly monitored and controlled.</li><li>Ensure Best Practice to minimise fuel usage and maximise KPL.</li><li>Monitor and control absence.</li><li>Maximise all forms of revenue.</li><li>Ensure supplier collections are made as planned.</li><li>Achieve on time delivery performance.</li><li>Ensure effective communications both internally in Transport department, within the Distribution Centre and with Customers including Supply Chain and branches.</li><li>Ensure management team is regularly appraised and developed via personal development plans.</li><li>Develop transport department Culture into a “Great Place to Work” atmosphere with Colleague engagement and inclusion a key focus.</li><li>Implement succession planning.</li><li>Identify training needs and design/implement training plans.</li><li>Ensure adherence to employment legislation and Company policy as required including; contracts of employment, discipline and grievance matters.</li><li>Support the General Manager to manage the ER environment to protect the business.</li><li>Build effective relationships with the site union representatives.</li></ul><h2>You will need</h2><p><strong>Technical Skills and Knowledge:</strong></p><ul><li>Management experience within a unionised environment.</li><li>Thorough knowledge of CPC accountabilities & the legislative requirements</li><li>Experience of a customer service environment.</li><li>Excellent PC and organisational skills.</li><li>Methodical approach to figures and reporting.</li><li>Understanding of people planning and scheduling processes.</li><li>Knowledge of health safety and legislative requirements.</li><li>Developing self and others.</li></ul><p><strong>Capabilities</strong><strong>:</strong></p><ul><li>Flexible with ability to work on own initiative.</li><li>Innovative and change orientated/adaptable.</li><li>Ability to work within a team environment.</li><li>Numerate and Literate.</li><li>Effective communicator at all levels with positive can do attitude.</li><li>Excellent leadership skills with the ability to impact and influence.</li><li>Decision-making and judgement.</li><li>Well organised, able to plan and manage time effectively.</li><li>Excellent influencing and communication skills.</li><li>Coaching skills.</li><li>Team player.</li><li>Tenacious.</li><li>‘Can Do’ approach to work.</li></ul><p><strong>Qualifications/Knowledge/Experience</strong></p><ul><li>CPC qualified.</li><li>Minimum of 3 years senior manager experience in a best practice transport environment.</li></ul><h2>What's in it for you</h2><p>At Booker, along with being a great place to work and giving you an opportunity to get on in your career, we also offer the following fantastic package of benefits:</p><ul><li>A Booker colleague card with 10% off purchases at Booker and double discount events up to three times a year.</li><li>After 3 months service, a Tesco colleague discount card with 10% increasing to 15% off most purchases at Tesco for a 4 day period after every four-weekly pay day, ie. thirteen times a year.
